The surgical patient undergoes operative procedures to remove or replace diseased organs/tissue. Specific aspects of the surgical patient’s care are different to those of a medical patient’s care; these include the treatment and prevention of post-operative complications. The surgical nurse should have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology, and this chapter provides a basic overview of the anatomy of the body.
Nurses have an important role in patient care. They continuously work in very close contact with patients and foster the realization of activities of daily living as well as ensure quality medical treatment. For both, a high educational level is needed. Our Nurses take care of the outcomes of diseases and suffering. They assist patients in the accomplishment of the activities of daily living, which are normally limited or impossible after surgery.
